This is no longer true (since about Mandrake 8.1), pam_console and
/etc/security/console.perms are supposed to ensure that any logged in
user should be able to use cdrecord.

Beware, however, if you have another user who logged in first on a
different console, they will retain ownership of the devices.

[John, you didn't cc the bug report BTW ... so this hasn't gone to
bugzilla AFAIK, please remember to do so in future]
