------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-09 17:40 -------
The same thing happens on the following machine:

  chipset: Intel 810
  monitor: Philips 107E

Error messages:

-------------------------------------------
Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb'
VGA16: PCI: Intel Unknown chipset (0x7125) rev 3
VGA16: chipset: generic
VGA16: videoram: 256k (using 256k)

Fatal server error:
no screens found
-------------------------------------------

The "Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb'" message was
also displayed when trying with the S3/Samsung machine.
Of course, the video RAM is bigger than 256k in both machines.

Also tried the installation with "vgahi" and "vgalo" installation
options, but the same X crash happens.

Using an S3 Trio 32/64 graphics card with a Samsung SyncMaster 400b monitor,
DrakX (in Mandrake 9.2 RC1) cannot start the X server. Here are a few lines
of the output:

-------------------------------------------
VGA16: Graphics device ID: "Generic VGA"
VGA16: PCI: S3 Trio 32/64 rev84
VGA16: chipset: generic
VGA16: videoram: 256k (using 256k)

The graphical installer worked correctly in 9.1.
HardDrake says the card is an "86c764/765 [Trio 32/64/64V+]".
