I think you are doing a big mistake if you treate the users as idiots. I have a daughter that only uses Microsoft. Once when she was here one of my sons helped her to do some downloads from a friends ftp server. As he is a Unix administrator he learned her to use ftp from a konsole. She had no problem what so ever and liked to know what she was doing.
