All the previous settings (with envy24control) are retrieved without launching envy24control. There is nothing about alsa, sound or snd in dmesg. I read it carefully. NEW: now I (a normal user) can play wav and ogg with kaboodle, noatun and xmms. Mdk9.2rc1 is now like Mdk9.1 : Only just impossible to record ! The result of amixer command is in attachment 761 alsamixer shows the settings like envy24control and works fine. alsamixergui shows the settings but when I access any IPGA setting it goes to zero. This is reported in http://www.music.columbia.edu/pipermail/linux-audio-user/2003-May/004505.html Envy24control is said the best of all mixers and I believe it. But I can't record ! With Mandrake 9.1 it was possible to play a sound with xmms, kaboodle or noatun. With 9.2 it is a great silence. It is impossible to record the signal. This is the feature that make me buy this high quality card.
