All I know is, since I have tried the latest Cooker KDE (3.14?) I don't get the side pane (navigation) in Konqueror file browser (see attached picture) - now all I get are the files themselves.
do you get the buttons on the rail to the left? It seems to me that the only way to get the tree view is to hit either the root or the home button
