Also, I've been using Gentoo ever since this problem came up without any issues, and others have reported most other distros working as well. It seems to be a problem with something that Mandrake has customized in the kernel. Unfortunately, most first-time downloaders aren't about to start messing around with custom kernels. They will put in the CD, boot, hang, and try another distro. All other peripherals (video, network, audio, etc.) all are onboard. I can install Mandrake 8.2 fine. The 9.0 release has this problem. The 9.1 RC1 has this problem.
