For completeness, it would be nice to have the output when the cable is
unplugged too .... note that in 2.4.23pre2 MII support was added for a
lot of cards, hopefully this will be merged in to a packaged kernel soon
(or if you have time to compile a kernel you could check ...).

Hmm, it seems mii-tool and ifstatus's SIOCGMIIPHY support differ in
opinion if they were both run while plugged. Maybe this *is* an ifplugd
big? But it would be easier to check if you gave the output when you are
unplugged.

The blacklist isn't in the kernel, I think it was in the drakxtools, but
my cooker mailbox doesn't go back far enough to check exaclty how this
was done. The effect you would see is the "Network hotplugging" would be
unchecked by default.
