I have also such a drive. It is correctly detected as usb-storage
(/proc/bus/usb/devices):

and I can manually mount via command line:

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk1
mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/disk2
...

and access it normally, but I do not get an icon (or better four, as the drive
has four partitions) on the KDE desktop when I simply plug in the drive. If I
use diskdrake and set the partitions of the drive as user-mountable and not
mounting on boot, I get icons.

But this does not help much for the case that you have some data on a USB memory
key with you, or photos on a USB storage camera and you come to your Mandrake
box at work (where you do not have root access to configure the device or to
mount it manually) and ther you cannot access your storage device because it is
not configured on that computer.

description:
After a fresh install of Mdk 9.2 rc2, I tried to plug and access my external
hard drive, a Momobay 40 Go with an USB connection. I use it with Windows XP,
there is one partition in NTFS.

When I turned on the device, an icon appeared on the desktop (Kde), but with the
title "unmounted on sdb1" (sorry I don't remember the exact words). When I tried
to "mount" it (right click with the mouse), I got the following error message:

> Error - kio_devices_mounthelper
> mount: type de sys. de fichiers erroné, otpion erronée, super bloc
> erroné sur /dev/sdb1, ou trop de systèmes de fichiers montés

Here is the line in fstab for the device:
/dev/sdb1 /mnt/removable auto
user,exec,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,noauto,kudzu,umask=0 0 0

I changed the argument "auto" with "ntfs", but after a reboot, the same error
was still here :(

When I boot my system, I quickly get a text utility for partitioning, as Mdk
says it discovered a new partition (/sdb1). But it asks me what is the size of
it and how to configure it ("linux native", "swap", etc.) I always cancel the
process because I don't want all my datas to be erased!
