commands that won't and will work

This command, generated at rc2 install, will gpf at power down. I had removed
the splash=silent command in order to view boot messages:

root=/dev/hdg12 devfs=mount acpi=ht hdc=ide-scsi resume=/dev/hda5 vga=788

This command will power down cleanly:

devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi resume=/dev/hda5 vga=788 root=/dev/hdg12

Kernel in both cases is 2.4.22-9mdk. kernel-tmb-2.4.22.7.tmb on yesterday's
cooker behaves the same.

In the past, I have fixed such a power down problem with this motherboard by
recompiling a kernel with CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF set to YES. There
have been some kernels which worked without problem and some for which 'noapic'
would provide a clean power off.

description:
For 9.2rc2, the installer puts acpi=ht on the boot command line for the Grub
bootloader. This is a desktop, IWill XP333-R motherboard, latest BIOS, ALi
Magik 1 (ALi M1647 Northbridge, ALi M1535D+ Southbridge) chipset, socket A,
Athlon XP processor. Booting with the acpi=ht parameter will cause a general
protection fault:fdf8, Bad EIP value at power down. Removing this command
allows the computer to shut down cleanly. The behavior is the same with
kernel-2.4.22.9mdk and updated cooker.
