I had a quick look at the patch but I'm not sure how to apply it to the tree. If you have any ideas, please let me know and I'll apply it no problem.

That's great! When you release I'll download at work and leave the torrent up for others. Question: is it possible also to update the installation procedure itself (re: issue no. 3 on the official errata)?
