After updating to the most recent kernel, I cannot boot into Cooker. The
system kernel panics trying to find init. I noticed when I booted that the
kernel spewed a few errors on the mounting of / in the initrd: XFS: SB read
failed.

I know that /sbin/init is there, since I've the partition mounted under my
production environment and also could mount it under the rescue image as
well. Can someone please give me any pointers on how to fix this _without_
reinstalling?

pertainent info:
kernel-2.4.22-24mdk
/dev/hde4 / xfs
/dev/hde2 /boot xfs
