Dear Michael and Anton,

Thanks for your advise on my problem.
Unfortunately, it still doesn't help.
I downloaded Modutils 2.3.15 following your advise that 2.3.10 has some
glitches.

then run:
RPM -U initscripts-5.27-8mdk.i586.rpm modutils-2.3.15-1mdk.i586
(RPM -U initscripts-4.97-34mdk.i586.rpm modutils-2.3.15-1mdk.i586 gives the
same result)

As the result, I received new error:
/sbin/installkernel conflicts with file from package kernel-2.2.14-15mdk

I am wondering if I should upgrade now KERNEL??!!

My *WISH* to install Modutils came from KDE2 1.93 installation.
Some module needed Modutils, Modutils asked me for new Initscripts, now I got
them both. And - should take new Kernel?
Does it mean that KDE2 needs new KERNEL (>=2.2.14) for complete installation?

I am now running KDE2 1.93 beta3 (build 720), it works ok except some sound
glitches. Probably, these sound glitches come from missing (old) Modutils.
RPM -q shows : Modutils-2.1.121-16mdk installed. KPackage doesn't show it at
all.

I have Mandrake 7.0 Linux (kernel 2.2.14) built end of Dec 99.
