My guess:  Stephen Tweedie is conserative about calling his work
alpha/beta, etc.  Hans Reiser is anxious to get ReiserFS in widespread
use and is a little more liberal with "it's stable" statements (I am not
saying it is).  This is skewing who is adopting what into the distros.

It can be noted here that rpmfind.net has been using ext3 (IIRC) for
over a year now.
