FYI you may need to install with --force to have erase the old ac97
module, you can do like this from the command line :
-$ rpm -ivh --force
ftp://ftp.chmouel.org/pub/people/chmou/kernel/maestro3/maestro3-04112000-1mdk.i686.rpm
-$ service start sound
