This seems to be a problem that won't go away.
I have a similar problem and I have tried to make some corrections.
I also used the 3DFX drivers, the RedHat glides.
Unfortunately, I don't have any success story to write about.

I i were you, i won't even use "try", but rather just order : "fix that.
Now (of course)".
And i won't even ship so much information as you do. Having the name of
conflicting packages is definitly too much for all those lazy techs.
