Yeah the mdk kernels seem patched a LOT.
Most other kernel patches won't work on them without
*careful* scanning for and re-integration of
.rej fragments.
One other thing that really bugs me about them is that a lot
of the help in the config has been removed by some
nefarious individual or organisation...
