I have a 

k6-2 450 Mhz
128-MB ram
SIS 530
REALTEK rtl8139
IDE HARD DRIVE, CDROM

Both network & CDROM installs work fine. Even identifies correct amount
of ram.
Try passing ram options on booting the installer.
