Try deleting (outside of X) your ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc.  KDE will 
regenerate it as required when you go in to kde again.  I have the same 
audio chip and have to do that sometimes - something to do with the 
STAC9721/23, I think - not the greatest mixer control.
