To specify one in particular, I'm looking for anybody who's successfully
gotten the K7T266 Pro2 to work with 8.1 or greater.

According to:

PC200/266 is all that's supported.  Is it possible that the bus has
changed enough so that the kernel would barf?  That seems odd, but then
again, my opinion and a quarter might buy a cup of coffee.
