I have a special user in my system, with UID=0 GID=0. (May sound stupid, but I needed for a reason) When I run the MDK control center as root, it normally runs, and as any other user,asking password and running. With this special user, DrakConf runs fine in text mode, though in X it does nothing. I opened a konsole in X and ran from there, no error output. It just changed the console color to green. Guess it is a bug, at least in this special reason, so I wanted to let you know. I tried the latest I found in cooker also.
