I tried to compare the two versions and the new one does not seem better. Running /usr/X11R6/lib/xscreensaver/gears -fps -geom 1000x1000 I get between 1.5 and 2 fps with a 400MHZ TNT 128 16MB.
rpm -e NVIDIA_kernel NVIDIA_GLX xscreensaver xscreensaver-gl rebuild the new src rpms and install them. rebuild xscreensaver and install them. Running gears again, I get between 0.6 and 1 fps, half the previous speed! That does not convince me... =-= kk1
