On my system (AMD Duron 650, 192MB RAM, ISA NE2000 NIC), the 8.2 installer
doesn't find the NIC. Going to tty2 (the minimal shell), allows manual
modprobeing of the ne module with proper io and irq parameters. DrakX's
network configuration works (allows DHCP to be entered and a hostname to
be set), but the io/irq settings are not saved, and the interface is not
brought up at boot.
Will the dialog box that allows entry of io and irq parameters in DrakX
return in a later beta?
Also, the DrakNet component of the control center seems to be unable to
save proper options to /etc/modules.conf (at least with respect to the ne
driver). A line that should be
options ne io=0x240 irq=5
is written by DrakNet as
options ne i=0x240 i=5
Which modprobe doesn't like.
