I tried it ( http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/ltmodem-6.00b15.tar.gz ) on my Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop. The install works seemlessly. I had just a bad surprise with the last and optional step of the process. It's a script called ./checkout and this removes a bunch of modules and does not work.
