I *think* I still have the plain old names, because (once at a time?)
grub did not understand devfs names.

Thanks! Yes, you fixed it. I copied the attached file to
/usr/share/loader and called installkernel. I got this output:

[root@teich loader]# /sbin/installkernel -a -c 2.4.18-20mdk
mke2fs 1.27 (8-Mar-2002)
/dev/fd0 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/fd0 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/floppy/0 /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/hda /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/hda /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc

I now also have a 248-20 entry in /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Well, the output is a little bit too verbose for my taste - but at least
it's working *G*

Thanks a lot, Pixel!
