I'm using a radeon 7000 card with 3D. When I run racer (www.racer.nl) or Soldier of fortune, my system starts hanging. With racer it started to hang almost immediately. Remote login and killing X didn't help (I could kill -9 X), X stayed frozen. Giving in a remote "reboot" gave me a hard reboot. With Soldier of Fortune, pressing the Function keys gave me also a hanging X, after which I just pressed the reset button.
