Actually that is not fully accurate. Neither urpmi or rpmdrake 'upgrades' a kernel any longer, haven't since pre-8.2. Have 1 system where every kernel since -12 was done in auto-mode. Have not had a problem yet, of course I am not a fool, I do check that all the proper and necessary entries are made and that said entries are correct, just as I do on other systems on which the kernel is manually installed.
