I've noted a similar issue. My fix was simple; get the latest version of
the orinoco drivers from the author's homepage (
http://ozlabs.org/people/dgibson/dldwd/ - current version as I write
this is 0.12b). Compile that and do a 'make install', then go to
/lib/modules/<your kernel version>/kernel/drivers/net/wireless, remove
Mandrake's gzipped orinoco/hermes modules, re-run depmod -a, and
re-cycle the card. This version of the driver has never given this kind
of error for me; can someone please enlighten me as to exactly what
version is included in the Mandrake kernel? (Removing the Mandrake
modules may be optional, btw, but I didn't want to test what 'modprobe
orinoco_cs' does when you have orinoco_cs.o *and* orinoco_cs.o.gz :>).
I've not tried the wlan-ng stuff on my card.
