You can only have 4 primary partitions on a single hard drive, and windows 
doesn't like it when you have more than one.  Also, IIRC, if you have 4 
primary partitions, you can't create any extended partitions.  What's wrong 
with extended partitions?  Lilo should boot them fine, and I can't think of 
any other drawbacks.
