After you install fontconfig and Xft-2 ,edit your /etc/fonts/fonts.conf file 
and add 

<dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont/ttf</dir>

or where ever you have your ttf fonts installed. 

We've been playing with this for about a 3-4 weeks now.
