Any ideas people? -----Original Message----- From: Ran Talbott [mailto:ran@;netgate.net] Sent: Wednesday, November 06, 2002 11:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [lwlan-user] Warning for Mandrake Users: module conflicts
After a lot of wasted effort trying to get linux-wlan-ng-0.1.16-pre5 running with a Mandrake 2.4.18 kernel, I discovered that Mandrake included a set of now-obsolete wlan_ng modules under/lib/modules/2.4.18-8.2mdk/kernel/3rdparty, and that these were being loaded in preference to the newly-compiled ones. I moved the contents of the p80211, prism2_pci, prism2_plx, and prism2_usb subdirectories to a temporary hiding place (I just created a /root/hide directory), on the off chance that I might need them later. It should be safe to just rm them, but I'm not sure that the RPM manglers won't someday throw a hissy fit if they can't find everything they installed. Disk space is cheap, so I played it safe ;-) Then I ran a depmod -a, and now the right modules are being loaded.
