You're missing the point. I already have a --max-delete. The damage isn't that it's deleting files. In fact I noticed it because of the max-delete since RPM wouldn't remove the RPMS directory and replace it with the symlink. The problem is that because of a simple path modification rsync automatically redownloaded 1.3GB of files that I already had. The only way to avoid that when a path rename is done is to have prior warning and to rename it by hand.
