Two points from the above replys (thanks by the way...) 1 - If you have it working on 8.1 have you then tried upgrading to 8.2 or 9.0? 2 - I think the black screen is a result of some problem booting the kernel. I am not sure a verbose boot disk (cd or floppy) would help. As I said above, under text mode it loads the boot images, unpacks the kernel and then tries to boot it. This is where it then hangs. If the kernel won't boot then it may not be able to be verbose...
