Maybe my suggestion isn't so good.  I switched over to my laptop to try this,
and on the laptop's Win2000 NTFS, there are *NO* fonts in system32, and all of
the entries in WINNT/Fonts are real.  Needless to say, the drakfont conversion
works fine over there.

Maybe look first for fonts in system32, and only go to Fonts if none are found ?
 This discrepancy is probably the result of some MS maintenance that was applied
to my desktop system but not the laptop.
