I'm not saying that was the problem, you may be right and the OP should look 
elsewhere also.  The OP asked for help troubleshooting, and my experience has 
shown that if OO.o crashes when a particular font is displayed, that finding 
the offending font and removing it solves the problem.  According to the OO.o 
info, it has to do with fonts that don't follow the ttf specification or have 
a corrupted definition.
