I was able to make a boot floppy at installation of RC1. There is an
"Advanced Boot Options" (or something similar), and if you click on that,
you'll see a check box for making the boot floppy. I think it should be
more prominent, but it is in there.

Not sure about your "error 256". Maybe a bad floppy or you have it write
protected? Just guessing here. Is it dangerous not to have a boot floppy?
I only needed one to do the initial boot, because I dual boot with Windows.
Once I boot with the floppy, I do a

"dd if=/dev/[boot_partition] count=1 bs=512 of=mdk91.bin"

And then I put that mdk91.bin file in my Windows C:\ directory, so I can use
the Windows boot loader to get to Mandrake. Works great. (This isn't
working for me with Red Hat 8.0, but that's another story.)

If I didn't use the Windows boot loader to dual-boot, I might not worry
about the boot floppy at all.

Installed 9.1 beta 2. Told installation program to use the /boot partition,
NOT the MBR, for the LILO boot loader. (I dual boot with Windows 2000 and use
the Windows boot loader in the MBR.) The step to create the boot floppy was
completely skipped, so I couldn't boot Mandrake 9.1 at all. Tried this twice -
same thing both times.

This may be a dupe of an earlier bug (343/344, I think) but that indicated the
bug was resolved. If it is resolved, it's not in the released code.

Keep up the good work, guys. I think you've got the best distro out there.
