hi i am a new linux-mandrake user.and i tried to install mplayer by compiling it under mandrake 8.1. but ask for downgrading the gcc ,think i haven't donc(so i compile it with no gcc checking option) but at the end of the installation i can view nor hear video and sound .just some noise .
I remember there was some problems with gcc-2.96, especially depending of the exact release of the mdk package.
I am running gcc-2.96-0.73mdk on Mandrake 8.1 (sorta, lots of pieces upgraded to Cooker 'bout halfway between 8.1 and 8.2) and I compiled both mplayer 0.60 and 0.90-rc3 and they work just fine.
so i was asking what's wrong with do i have really to downgrade my gcc version or not .and also is this sure for my mandrake ?
I would rather advice to upgrade your distro, as 8.1 is quite old now, provided you can download more recent one. Otherwise, you'd better update your gcc version rather than downgrade it, maybe just by rebuild current gcc src package.
i would like really very clear explanation. i am computerscience student in senegal and we use here to work with windows.we have some notion in linux by some of our french teacher who come in senegal for us but now none of them are here and i am the only one who want to continue with it
Let's see if someone else on cooker list has better idea...
I'd say just try different video and audio output plugins.
mplayer -vo help for a video plugin list and mplayer -ao help for an audio plugin list
