Also the CDROM was not configured in fstab. I don't know if that is related. I have sandisk SDDR55 and zip drive and did wonder if the lack of media in these drives was a factor, but putting disks in did not remove messages. Also when CDROM changed from rw to ro, did not prevent messages.
