           Product: kdebase
         Component: program
Summary: "short view" of icons in file dialogue box doesnt allow
                    selection of files or directories.
           Version: 3.1-68mdk
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In any KDE app, when you try to either open a file or save a file you get
presented with the open or save file dialogue box.

If you have the icon view set to "detailed view", then everything works as
expected - you can browse through directories by double clicking on them, and
when you hover the mouse pointer over a directory, the pointer changes to a
hand. Double clicking on a file has the (expected) effect of opening that
file.

HOWEVER, if you change your icon view to "short view" then you can no longer
browse through directories. The mouse pointer remains the arrow, and clicking
on a directory has the effect of focusing it, but you cant actually cd into
that directory. Additionally, if you try double clicking on a file to open it,
that doesnt work either - the name gets selected but the file isnt actually
opened.

I have tested this in Kate, KWrite, KEdit so it seems anything that calls that
function is affected.
