Here's another idea:

Put the brown sugar rock in a microwave safe dish and microwave on High for about 10 seconds.

Apparently this softens the sugar.

I have never used the soft bread method but I have used a slice of fresh apple placed inside a closed container and this will actually make the brown unhard... is that such a word? ----- Original Message ----- From: "sharon howerton" <shrn...@att.net>

Can someone please refresh my memory on the best way to store an open box of brown sugar so it doesn't harden like a rock?

I had to get it in order to make the October fest dinner posted on this list a few weeks ago. I used a 3 qt crock pot, but a 5 qt probably would have been better.
Thanks.
