All,

South African mother to the rescue! For us poor ignorant Americans, Beef
Mince or Minced beef is more commonly known as ground beef on this side of
the pond.

Also, 300 grams is about three quarters of a pound.

Whew!

What is beef mince? And how much is 300 grams? Guess I need a good
conversion utility.

Easy Curry Puffs

1 tablespoon oil

2 green onions, chopped

1 clove garlic, crushed

2 teaspoons curry powder

 300 grams beef mince

2 teaspoons lemon juice

 1/3rd cup mango chutney

4 sheets ready rolled puff pastry

 egg to glaze

Heat oil and cook onion and garlic until onion softens. Add curry powder,
then beef. Cook, stirring, until beef is browned, remove from heat and stir
in juice and chuntey.

Roll each pastry sheet into a 30cm square (note, I don't bother - I just use
the normal sheet as it comes in the packet). Using 8cm round cutter (I use a
wine glass) cut 8 rounds from each sheet.

Preheat oven to moderately hot and oil two baking trays.

 Place one heaped teaspoon of the beef mixture onto each pastry circle;
brush edges with a little egg, fold over and press to seal with a fork.
Repeat with all sheets and mixture.

Place puffs on baking tray, brush with a bit more egg and bake in a
moderately hot oven for about 15 minutes.

Serve hot with either mango chutney or chilli sauce.

 Makes 32

Note: Unbaked puffs can be stored in freezer. The only secret is to make
sure the edges are well sealed by crimping them with a fork. 600 grams of
mince makes around 65, so they are really economical and delicious.
