A friend of mine gave me this method of making ordinary sweet iced tea
delicious. I don't know how she figured it out, but since it's so good, I
thought I'd submit it to the list.
You will need:
3 tea bags (smaller ones for half a gallon, big ones for a whole gallon)
the juice of (for half gallon, one lemon. for whole gallon, two lemons)
one or two cups of sugar (for half or whole gallon, respectively)
Whichever size of pitcher you choose, do the following:
If you have a coffee pot, prepare it for brewing (that is, fill the reservoir with water). In the spot where coffee would go, place the three tea bags so that they lie closest to the place where the water runs through the filter tray without
overlapping too much.
After closing the lid, turn on the coffee pot. It will brew a strong tea, so
that the lemon juice doesn't overwhelm the tea or the sweetness of the sugar
later.
While the pot is brewing, cut the lemon or lemons in half. (If you don't have a juicer, squeeze the lemons over a bowl to avoid getting the seeds in the tea when the time comes) Otherwise, juice the lemons using a juicer, which will catch the pulp
and seeds.
Pour the sugar into the pitcher.
When the tea finishes brewing, pour it into the pitcher with the sugar. The
heat of the tea will quickly dissolve the sugar as you stir.
Once the sugar is dissolved, pour in the lemon juice. (If you squeezed the
lemons into a bowl, I recommend stopping the seeds and pulp with your fingers
or a small strainer.)
After stirring in the lemon juice, fill the pitcher the rest of the way with
water, then stir thoroughly to finish the tea.
To serve, either drink it warm, or pour into a glass with ice. The tea is
good both warm and cold.
Enjoy! I certainly did the first time I tried doing this myself.
