Hello, Sorry to hear you are having trouble with WinCoot. Where did you get WinCoot 1.1.14 from? My github page? Why then not download the latest?! Often that helps. Anyway, since you cannot run either this nor an older one (which? 0.9.x?) this may be rather due to your Computer/OS somehow than WinCoot. Can you send me more information, i.e. what is written in the DOS console upon startup and when you try to load a model and/or map. Can you load the Tutorial Data?
Some comment on the "no dictionary" warning (Andrea Smith). The earlier versions of WinCoot 1.1. did not come with a dictionary at all so you would have to install your own and/or make sure you point WinCoot to the right dictionary from CCP4 (or phenix). Later versions (from 1.1.11) had the possibility to download the dictionary during installation. Since WinCoot (1.1.17 - better 18) the most common monomer library descriptions are distributed with (Win)Coot (and extras downloaded upon demand, although you can still opt to install the full set upon installation). WinCoot is integrated well with CCP4 and will take the monomer library files available from there (via the registry and/or CLIBD_MON). NOTE: For Phenix installations it looks for the library in COOT_MONOMER_LIB_DIR. Although not sure if this needs an update and/or how phenix nowadays integrates (Win)Coot. Finally, I am not sure what Windows 11 did to some computers. It seems it broke some WinCoots. Not for me though hence I need to get (detailed) information from users so that I can fix it (or suggest how to fix user's Windows 11). Always use the latest WinCoot version available (when possible) since this may have some fixes included...
