Raghu Angadi commented on HADOOP-4044:
--------------------------------------
Lets take another hypothetical case : Our RPC gets rewritten, and for some
reason, it wants to inform callers to retry. will all the RPCs calls have a
prefix 'retryOr...()' and all the returned values will have extra field to
indicate if this needs to be retried? This is obviously an exaggerated example
but hopefully makes a point.
Also I realize that it is hard to be too objective about interfaces...

> HDFS should support symbolic links. A symbolic link is a special type of file
> that contains a reference to another file or directory in the form of an
> absolute or relative path and that affects pathname resolution. Programs
> which read or write to files named by a symbolic link will behave as if
> operating directly on the target file. However, archiving utilities can
> handle symbolic links specially and manipulate them directly.
