Raghu Angadi commented on HADOOP-5355:
--------------------------------------

> What will happen to their running jobs, how will the command line client
> react, etc?

What would a user expect in that case. I think it behaves as expected with any
change in directory permissions and quotas in other systems : If the quota can
be set, it will be set. Once it is set, if a (near) future action by a job
running or otherwise, violates the quota, it will get an error.

How that error finally propagates to user concerned with the job is part of M/R
framework.

> Right now, the HDFS Quota Admin guide is full of good stuff on how to
> set/unset both space and name quotas.
> However, there's no documentation on how users should expect the system to
> behave. What will happen to their running jobs, how will the command line
> client react, etc?
