Job Qualifications:

 5+ years in Performance engineering
Expert knowledge of automated load testing tools and techniques
Expert knowledge of Microsoft system monitoring and performance
troubleshooting
Ability to communicate written and verbally with non-technical
audiences
Ability to quickly understand new technologies
Expert knowledge of Web protocols

Responsibilities:

 A Principal Performance Engineer should have an integrated view of
applications and infrastructure performance used across multiple
technologies.  This is the highest level of Performance Engineer
therefore the individual should demonstrate advanced technical and
leadership skills.  Individuals holding this position are typically
assigned to lead teams from technical and/or project management
perspectives, but may work independently or as a member of a team.
Individuals should have an understanding of Load Runner testing tool,
but also to be an avenue for exploring new technologies that could
improve our services, products or process that are in alignment with
IS objectives.  Individuals should lead efforts to collaborate with IS
colleagues and other stakeholders to evaluate complex business
requirements and processes, assess available technologies, determine
infrastructure and recommend solutions to enterprise performance
issues.  Individuals play a lead role in developing and executing
performance troubleshooting plans and performance test plans to ensure
a consistent performance testing methodology.



Expectations

Leads the design of performance testing of global applications or
infrastructure technologies.  Performance tests are designed based on:
business requirements, non-functional requirements, application
architecture, test objectives, global infrastructure, input from the
project team and input from the business.  Performance tests are
designed based on performance testing Best practices.
Leads the investigational planning of production performance
incidents. Collaborates with other IS teams to identify and resolve
performance related incidents using investigation methods in a cross
functional team environment.
Work with Project Architects to analyze how the infrastructure
architecture and application architecture integrates and can impact
the performance of the enterprise users located around the world.  The
individual must have working knowledge of the current application
architecture and technologies incorporated in our enterprise
systems.
Lead in the design and analyze of performance health monitoring
strategies used to proactively identify potential performance issues
in the enterprise infrastructure or global software applications.
Understand the Solution Development Process.  Lead in identifying
areas where Performance Engineering tasks need to be included in the
deliverables and provide estimates for the task efforts.
Works to develop business relationships and integrate activities with
other IT departments as appropriate to ensure successful
implementation and support project efforts.  Fosters and maintain good
relationships with business customers and IT colleagues to meet
expected customer service levels.
Leads medium to large projects or serve as development lead on any
size project. Develops technical estimates and timeframes for all
project life cycle phases.  Mentors others in good estimation
techniques and ensure accuracy of estimates done by team members.
Mentors less experienced performance engineers. Manages technical work
of contractors.  Sets professional example and fosters teamwork and
excellent communication among team members. Serves as role model to
the team in development business relationships and integration of
activities with other IT departments as appropriate to ensure
successful implementation and support project efforts.
