Hello COSE WG members, The second version of Ascon-AEAD128 for JOSE and COSE draft has just been published.
The changes concern: 1) Referencing Section 5.3 of [RFC9052] to specify encryption and decryption process. 2) Changing the description of JOSE Nonce Header Parameter in order to avoid using it with Ascon. Currently, we are focusing on implementing Ascon-AEAD128 over COSE. After, we will be focusing on JOSE. If you are interested to cooperate in any stage of this process or you have other remarks concerning the draft, don't hesitate to reach out. Name: draft-ochkas-cose-ascon Revision: 01 Title: Ascon-AEAD128 for JOSE and COSE Date: 2025-01-21 Group: Individual Submission Pages: 9 URL: https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-ochkas-cose-ascon-01.txt Status: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ochkas-cose-ascon/ HTMLized: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ochkas-cose-ascon Diff: https://author-tools.ietf.org/iddiff?url2=draft-ochkas-cose-ascon-01 Abstract: This document describes JSON Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE) and CBOR Object Signing and Encryption (COSE) serializations with Ascon which received a lot of attention in the area of lightweight cryptography. In 2019, as a part of CAESAR competition, Ascon-128 and Ascon-128a were selected as the first choice for the lightweight authenticated encryption [asconv1.2-caesar]. After, in 2023, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) selected Ascon family of cryptographic algorithms to be the standard for lightweight cryptography [asconv1.2-nist]. This recognition makes it particularly interesting to use Ascon with COSE and JOSE structures. This document does not define any new cryptography, only serializations of existing cryptographic systems described in [NIST.SP.800-232].
