Subject: James Quigley, born about 1795, catholic in Londonderry, Tyrone,
Ireland.

Hello I am looking for the Military regiment of my great -great Grandfather.
James Quigley. I believe he came to Canada with the a British regiment
between1808 to 1843,. There was 8 regiments who were station in Pentanguishene
Ontario. I can't find his parents name, on his marriage application of 1844. He
must have taken his retirement, because he purchased land in Pentanguishene in
1843. He might have been a Sargent, who received a medal, and a pension. There
was a James, with the 66th who was born in 1808 who deserted in 1833. -also a
James with Glengarry Fencibles born in 1785, and a Prostant. My James became
successful with a big farm, brickyard, and lumbermill. He got married a second
time to Mary Devine in 1854. He may have a brother named Charles, who got
married in Londonderry in 1829, and came to Pentanguishene in 1831-1835. I was
also wondering if he followed the Irish tradition of naming first born after
parents name. He called his first son James, and his first daughter
Mary. James is listed in the 1861 census of Simcoe counties, also in 1871
census, and in 1881 census. He died in August 1886 in Pentanguishene, and was
buried by St Ann's catholic church. Thank you- Donald Patrick Quigley-Winnipeg

Register of Gravestone Inscriptions in Old Leckpatrick Burial Ground,
Artigarvan, Strabane, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland
<https://www.cotyroneireland.com/graveyard/leckpatrick2/index.html>

"In the 1980s, the late David Todd, who lived all his life in Greerstown,
Co. Londonderry researched his family history and produced a booklet for
family members. When doing this he realised that a useful source of
information was gravestones, and the condition of many of these was fast
deteriorating, which would lead to the loss of useful information. In the
late 1980s / early 1990s, he produced four booklets transcribing the
inscriptions in graveyards in Co. Londonderry and Co. Tyrone as follows:
Old Glendermott, with his daughter, Marjorie; Leckpatrick, with his wife,
Sheelagh; Old Donagheady, with his daughter, Deirdre and the Grange Burial
Ground, with his wife, Sheelagh. These were very successful.

The family is therefore delighted to share them with interested parties
through CoTyroneIreland.com as we are sure he would have wished."

We wish to sincerely thank the Todd family for allowing us to reproduce
this marvellous work on CTI. This is the last of the four books.

Enjoy

Hallo Jim, my thanks to the Todd family for sharing the Leckpatrick
inscriptions. I have been researching the Sinclair families in Ireland for some
years, so can now check I have the right information at
https://sinclairgenealogy.info/ireland/other-irish-sinclair-families/sinclairs-of-holyhill

Note that I think the old ballad called 'The Moorlough Shore', sung by Sinead
O'Connor, refers to Holyhill (accessed from the same page).

With kind regards, Peter
