In my own personal experience, the probe on my EGT went bad merely due
to the lead going into the probe itself. I was able to remove the wire, bare
it and re-crimp into the probe. My guess is breakage is common since the wire
is fairly rigid. I found this problem on mine by first removing the probe
then using a candle to heat it. Have someone watch the gauge, and wiggle the
lead and see if it starts working.
Worked for me.
