I would just forget about it if it doesn't have the mandatory inspection
holes under the wings. Sure, they can be added to find out if it's okay,
but it has been 7 years now since they were required and if they aren't on
there by now, then the mechanic who signed the annual is a fool and moron
and you don't want to buy into that kind of work! I would subtract a full
$800 that is going to cost you to replace those Eisemann mags if the plane
has them as they have really had it at this point and they scare the
mechanics to death (silly, but true!) They were probably fair in their
day
but forget them now. Expect an engine with 1000 hours over the past 30
years to be needing a top overhaul soon. They don't seem to go to 1800 if
it is stretched out over many many years. If any engine accessories have
more than about 500 hours or so then plan on those going out too. I have
been there and seen how these break as if on a schedule! Also as somebody
mentioned previously, figure $1000 if you don't have Cleveland brakes.
Take
a good look under the nose fuel tank with a flashlight and see if it's
wet.
