List, well my IA is due for annual renewal and I just thought I would pass along an invitation to you guys to attend the FAA's annual symposium/IA renewal seminar. If you have never heard of or attended one of these you are really missing something good. It is Saturday, March 17th in Newark Ca, (for those of you who live near me) and will go from 8am to 5 pm. It's FREE- and very informative. Once a year we IAs have to attend 8 hrs of upgrade as one means of renewing our IA certificate and the FAA puts on these free seminars. The flyer says "industry speakers will provide a total of 36 sessions covering current aviation issues, product development and training. A trade show will be operating between sessions for vendor displays." They usually have several 50 minute sessions going on and you pick the ones you want to sit through. Last year they had the engineer from Gill battery come and speak and it was really informative and eye-opening. He told us that the sealed gell battery was really only designed to last about a year- there are many other vendors who will be there. They have door prizes and some really good give-aways too. You can meet other IAs/A&Ps as well as the vendors. The FAA usually holds some sessions also, like last year they had a couple of hours devoted to "what is really an alteration"; which was designed to inform us of the hundreds of useless 337 forms that they have to process every year. If you live near Fresno and want to carpool or drive up and meet me there let me know. This is an excellent resource for an aircraft owner, plus it's FREE! with snacks provided- you have to buy your own lunch. For those of you who live elsewhere but want to find one of these just contact your local FSDO office and they will tell you where the closest one is to you. They are happening all over the U.S. right now because it's mandatory for the IA if he doesnt do more than 4 annuals during the year and it's IA renewal time (Every March 31st is the deadline for us to renew).
